Injustice Masquerading as Justice

This is why rules and laws should not be absolutist. Without mercy to lubricate them, the wheels of justice grind to a halt and result in injustices like this one. Don't tell me you didn't have a choice in having an innocent 10 year old arrested!

This is a great example of the "because you could" mentality. We had a ten year old girl arrested, "because she could" have hurt somebody. We arrested the driver "because he could" have had an accident. There need be no law broken in todays society to send someone to jail. It is really out of hand, and I hate the thought that it could even get worse. I have led a clean life so far and have never been arrested or gone to jail, but I better knocked on wood because I could commit a crime.

I like that phrase. We need to use it as a rhetorical weapon to fight against "because you could" laws.
