Free Gorki Aguila!

Cuba, that Mecca of Michael Moore, the place where all things Good and Wonderful happen on earth, has arrested a punk rocker for "social dangerousness." What will get you arrested for social dangerousness? Well, speaking out against the government, for one, which is what this musician is going to be going to prison for. Other forms of "social dangerousness," defined as 'behavior contrary to "communist morality"": public drunkenness, unemployment, skipping work, drug addiction, and "anti-social behavior." This is what the Left has historically had in store for its people. The Terror was invented by the first Leftists in the world -- the French Revolutionaries -- and every Leftist government has followed suit ever since.

I have just recived news that Gorky Aguila has been fined 600 Cuban pesos instead of being sent to jail for 4 years as speculated by the crime of "dangerousness". Thanks to all who supported his cause. Thanks to all who wrote E-mails, who wrote to their respective government officials to protest this injustice. Gorky is free because you cared. Thank you.

It's still an injustice, but better than prison.

An injustice?

Actually, I'm disappointed he wasn't jailed, and I'm as North American as you get, white, 28 years old and I even like punk. I hate Communism and wish Cuba would totally disassociate itself with "Communism", but I am not Cuban, so I have no right to say and I feel the whole "Communism" thing is more a "finger up" to Uncle Sam at any rate!

Gorki's actions are treasonous, and he is a danger to the peaceful society that exists in Cuba because of the Revolution.

Here in North America, if he was talking, acting and singing the way he is in Cuba, against President Bush in the USA, you better believe there would be swift action of one kind or another.

Maybe not now, since he's the least liked person in the world, but in general!

In fact, the US Government would take it to the next level and call such behaviour the work of terrorists!

Remember what happened to the Dixie Chicks?

They only said they were embarrassed that the President was from their home state! They were vilified as "Un-American" and that was only the most personally hurtful thing which those woman were slated as. Whenever someone questions anything in America these days, it's thrown up as dissent and your branded an "evil-doer".

You have this asshole, Gorki, who clearly has no respect for authority or respect for people full stop, because since he doesn't even know the subject's he's critisizing, I find that gives him a bad rep, not street cred! As in stick to what you know.

If he is so against the Cuban Governement, then why doesn't he actually take some mature steps to address what he considers to be "injustices" by the government?

I know plenty of Cubans who I speak to daily, in real time! (they have the internet you know!)

The Cuban's I know have not complained to me about anything other than the Genocidal Embargo imposed on their island, which has hurt no one more so, than ordinary Cubans themselves.

That my friends is injustice.

Why is Gorki not working with the Pastors for Peace or work with anyone and everyone else who is trying to have this embarrassing and illegal act of purposeful economic distruction lifted, once and for all? Why isn't he helping organize and get Humanitarian Aid into Cuba?

If Cuba did not have to be on guard 24 hours a day, worried about what might come next from the last Greatest Super Power or the Terrorists they harbour in Florida, it could concentrate on opening up more, IF that if trully what the people want!

THEY MUST CHOOSE; not their Miami Cousins and Ex-Pats who are not even deserving of being called "Ex-Pats".

I hear that Cubans are in fact expressing their grievances openly, pick a subject and it's currently being discussed. Same Sex Marriage? That's in the National Assembly and it was written by Mariella Castro, Raul's daughter.

Gay Rights? Since 1979, as long as I've been alive, Sodomy has been off the books in Cuba. As I write this, Sodomy is still on the books in 3 US States despite Lawrence vs. Texas of 2003.

Virginia, Oklahoma and North Carolina still enforce their Sodomy laws despite the Supreme Court ruling as "unconstitutional".

The US Military appartly also thinks that Supreme Court rulings do not apply to them, because they ridgidly enforce Sodomy Laws within their "clan".

Ask any of its hunreds of thousands of victims, Gay's and Lesbian's across the United States and those who have had to run away and defect to escape court martial and severe prison sentences because of their sexual orientation.

The Cuban Government also imprisoned "Gay" Cubans in the early years of the Revolution, for which Fidel Castro has expressed he wished he had done things differently. By 1992 Gay Sex was legalized and attitudes started to shift.

No one and certainly no government is perfect, but as a Gay Man, I can say that I approve of the way in which the Cuban Governement is acting in even tabling such legislation as Same Sex Marriage. Considering the last legislation on the subject in the US or other states have been talk to BAN Same Sex Marriage outright, making it unconsitutional. And that's supposed to be called freedom?

The vast majority of Cubans in Cuba do NOT want any American involvement on their island, including wanting their land at Guantanamo back.

You can't just insult, hurl slurs about and then expect that after you've insulted, then tarred and feather public officials, who were elected by the people, that the police or government isn't going to take action of some kind!

Here in this country it's called Civil Disobedience and Disorderly Conduct.

I'm sorry but there is a reason similar acts are prohitbited from entering Western Countries, because we regard them as a threat to our social fabric, yet when Cuba acts against someone who clearly is acting out, even encouraging uprisings, then the focus shifts to "Free Gorki" and Bad Cuban's?

I don't think so!

Stop the double talk, there are ways to fix what people find wrong with their governments, his route is not one of them, nor is any other similar reproduction in any other country.

It only acts to offend and incite reprisals or reaction, it deters from real work to be done and is counter-productive in every way; as witnessed clearly in his lyrics.

Which are void of a single solution!

Gorki should run for the National Assembly, since he'd be elected by his neighbours and constituents.

Clearly if there are so many people behind him, in Cuba, he would have a lot of support running for office based on bringing positive change to the Revolution, enriching it, not affronting it.

That is how anyone can become elected, by his or her peers in Cuba.

A popular myth created by the US Governement is that Cuba doesn't have free and fair elections, that is entirely false and I invite those who actually want to gain some intelligence, as opposed to engage in useless rhetoric against a governement or leader of a sovereign, self-determined nation, to engage me in a mature discussion in which I gladly show you the working of the Cuban Electoral system.

You should get yourself a job with Cuba's propaganda service. This posting makes you sound like you have one already. I don't believe for a minute you hate communism. At the least, you have shown clear support for a dictator and his dictatorship, which in my mind is worse -- if you were a communist you could at least be excused for being blinded by your ideology.

The Dixie Chicks were punished by their audience, not by the government. There is a huge difference. But as you are a supporter of dictators, I can understand how you can't tell the difference. You have bought into the entire Cuban propaganda machine, which is truly sad. Unless you actually work for them -- and this posting quite frankly makes you sound you do.

About the comments of 'ddh', I totally agree with you Troy Camplin, he (ddh) must work for the cuban government. As a clarification of who can have access to the internet in Cuba, only those that are part of the government engine. So, if you are gay, why don't you move to Cuba and let us know in reality how bad they have it?

DDH= Dumb Dimwitted Homosexual.
You are part of the problem and not the solution to what is wrong. You are either and ignorant fool , a brainwashed Communist or what I suspect a homosexual who defends the communist government because you go to Cuba to take advantage of cheap sex. Your propaganda does not merit a lengthy response as the one you posted. It is easy to defend communism while living in the United States. Hypocrite.
