Correa's Challenge

Dear President Bush,

You should call Ecuadorean President Correa on his bluff and offer to send troops to the Ecuador-Columbia border. If nothing else, we would get to kill Communists at the invitation of a Communist -- something all liberty-loving people should embrace wholeheartedly, and not just because of the wonderful irony of it.

I have my doubts about whether any liberty-loving person with a whole heart would want to kill anyone just because of their political orientation. It sounds a little bit bloodthirsty to me.

The Communists I'm talking about are FARC-- a Marxist rebel terrorist group that kidnaps and murders people. Please keep my comments in context of the situation I am referring to. I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that we are obliged to kill anyone who threatens liberty in the way FARC does. If we don't protect ourselves against armed Marxist rebellion, we will find ourselves ruled by these vicious thugs. If someone wants to be a Marxist and live peacefully among those of us who love liberty, then let them believe in fairy castles in the sky for all I care. But when such people use force and murder people to try to create those fairy castles here on earth, then we have to, if we love liberty, defend ourselves against them.

Respectfully, I don't think I've taken anything out of context. IMO, even with the hyperlink, the context you've provided is insufficient to qualify the term "communist" in such a way that it refers specifically to the FARC rebels. I realize a judiciously applied hard line is part of your blog's style--that's one of the reasons why I come here. I also realize I'm not a professional editor or a Ph.D. Regardless, I'll stand my ground. When one is justifying killing human beings, there's no room for ambiguity.

Well, Correa was talking about the communist group FARC and was referring the incident with Columbia, which I've talked about before. I thought it would be clear that I was talking about the same exact group Correa was talking about in his comments. More, I was commenting more about the irony that a communist (whom I was not advocating killing) was inviting us to fight another group of communists (FARC, whose members should be killed, IMO). I'm sorry if I was unclear in such a way as to make you think something about me that I at least don't think is true. I support people believing anything at all the want. I do object, though, when they try to govern with immoral ideologies. I am very much in favor of violent revolution in such a case, if necessary -- though I much prefer peaceful solutions that do not result in power-hungry socialists having any sort of political power in the end.
