Who Defends Free Speech?

It is so nice to read a clear-headed argument about anything -- but especially when it involves the issue of free speech.

It seems cliché to blame this on "liberalism," but from the information given, it seems appropriate, alas. After the Holocaust, one can understand Europe's sensitivity towards perceived racism, but one should expect that the same historical circumstances would highlight the importance of freedom of speech and the public's ability to evaluate ideas for themselves.

Unrelated but interesting juxtaposition: one of the conditions of a school-sponsored scholarship I applied for at UTD this year was that I not be a member of the communist party.

Wow. I didn't think there were still remnants of that in the U.S. Of course, since it does, I'm not surprised that it's in Texas.
