A Powerful Moral Argument Against High Taxation

A powerful moral argument against high taxation --and much modern governments do -- can be made. And should be made more often. The author is correct that by taking so much money away from us, it makes it more difficult to help others. But it can also make it more difficult to live up to one's obligations as well. It is among the ways governments make men less ethical.

Supporters of big government don't care about and are totally unmoved by these arguments. They are firmly convinced that there would be sick people dying in the streets and poor people rummaging through their garbage bins and dying of dysentery if not for government handouts. The "morality" of majority rules based coercion is the only morality they really understand.

Yes, I'm feeling exceptionally cynical today.
