I will vote fir Ron Paul but he is not main stream because:
Most Americans love SS and medicare and do not support changing them. Also though the majority of Americans are with him on Marijuana most are against him on other recreational and medical drugs.
Ron Paul is right on marijuana and gay marriage. It's hard to hold that position and not agree with Ron Paul's position on those things. It's pretty cut and dry.
I happen to disagree with him on Afghanistan, although I imagine we could draw down in the near future, and obviously that would be good thing.
But I'm a little curious about your fourth point.
You realize there area a bunch of us that favor the free market that don't think Ron Paul would be good for the economy, right? Why do you tie the free market so closely to Paulite libertarianism?
I think you're both making too big a deal of what is merely a rhetorical point. Several GOP candidates have argued that RP is unelectable because he's not "mainstream." (Of course, if he does win the GOP nomination, wouldn't that mean they are arguing Obama is mainstream?)
Ron Paul is the only Republican candidate who can beat Obama. The President has been a huge disappointment to Dems because he appears to be so much like George W. Bush as president what with all the warring and Patriot Act type legislation. Ron Paul is socially tolerant and Dems are ready for government to go on a diet.
